September 2024 LabCoP DNO ECHO Session: GIS Laboratory Mapping programme in-country institutionalization, implementation and monitoring journey: Experiences from Mozambique and Zimbabwe

LabCoP DNO Sub-CoP ECHO session

This LabCoP DNO Sub-CoP ECHO session, focuses on ‘Institutionalization, implementation and monitoring of GIS Laboratory mapping programme’. ASLM in collaboration with Africa CDC has been supporting countries in a phased manner to map existing laboratory capacity in Africa since 2018 under the LabMaP program. This initiative aims at collecting laboratory data linked to geolocation information systems (GIS) for rapid visualization of capacity within and across countries, and enable data utilization and simulation of optimized laboratory network for evidence-based decision making. In this session, we share the LabMaP journey of Mozambique and Zimbabwe after generating laboratory systems and network capacity gaps and developed capacity strengthening operational workplans with KPIs and timeliness. Presenters will further discuss how they identified capacity gaps from LabMap data and triangulated with other sources such as LabNet score card, DHIS 2/LIMS, and WHO Joint External Evaluation. They will share plans for institutionalization, integration of workplans into national structures and progress with implementation of these plans. Presenters Dr Félix Pinto, Head of Diagnostic Department, Ministry of Health, Mozambique Vincent Kampira, National TB Laboratories Coordinator, Directorate of Laboratory Services (DLS), Ministry of Health and Child Care, Zimbabwe.
