COVID-19 ECHO Session #19: Public Health Lab Networks and SARS-CoV-2 Testing: Lessons from the USA

On 15 July 2020, this COVID-19 ECHO session was convened to discuss the public health lab networks and SARS-CoV-2 testing challenges, strategies, and lessons learned from the USA. During emergencies like COVID-19 when laboratory testing services surge, there are risks of a health care system being overwhelmed. Well-structured strategies must be formulated to cope with such situations. In this session, we discussed Ralph Timperi, Senior Advisor, Laboratory Practice and Management, at the Association of Public Health Laboratories presented about components of the U.S. public health and diagnostic laboratory network, options for managing supply chain interruptions, three testing options for managing surges in testing service demands, and advantages and disadvantages of multiple testing platforms.
