Introduction
The African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM) is a Pan‐African professional body, working to advocate for the critical role and needs of laboratory medicine and networks throughout Africa. For more information, please visit our website at https://aslm.org.
Objective of the assignment
Background:
Africa bears the greatest malaria burden, accounting for approximately 95% of cases and 96% of deaths globally. Despite considerable advances over the past few decades, the progress towards elimination is stalling. The main goal of molecular surveillance of malaria is to enhance surveillance and improve public health interventions. To accelerate the implementation of a continent-wide molecular surveillance of malaria, a coordinated approach from all key stakeholders and implementation partners including governments, national regulatory authorities, research partners, donors, funders, and the community is essential. The Africa CDC – Africa PGI malaria molecular surveillance project aim to enhance malaria drug and diagnostic resistance through capacity and capability building at public health laboratories, strengthening regional collaboration, expertise, and data sharing among public health and research institutions. By harnessing genomic methodologies, this initiative seeks to fulfill the imperative requirement for prompt identification and continuous observation of molecular markers of antimalarial drug resistance and hrp gene deletions.
Objective of the RFP
ASLM is soliciting proposals from qualified consultants to support the coordination and implementation of the Africa PGI MMS project in at least 10 Member States. The Consultant will adopt a consultative, holistic approach to conduct the assignment.
