ASLM background
The African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM) is a pan-African professional body working to advocate for the critical role and needs of laboratory medicine and networks throughout Africa. Africa is rapidly growing but faces major health challenges including epidemics of HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria, and new priorities such as Ebola and other global health security threats. Strengthened laboratory capacity and surveillance in Africa are critical to overcoming the burden of disease and ensuring a healthy future for the continent. ASLM addresses these challenges by working collaboratively with governments, local and international organizations, implementing partners, and the private sector.
A position has risen within the US CDC Global Health Security Corona Virus Relief, and Economic Security Act – Office of Advance Molecular Detection (GHS CARES OAMD) project at ASLM to complete project activities and successfully closeout by September 2025.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Project Manager and Team to ensure that the project goals, scope, budget, and timeline are met
- Support project work plans, schedules, and budgets, development and updates
- Work with partners/stakeholders on activities implementation
- Coordinate activities implementation and communication with internal and external stakeholders
- Monitor contractor compliance to work plans and deliverables and work with them in-country during technical assignments, meetings, and training events
- Assist with technical assignment and meeting/training event planning and providing in-country support during in-country activities
- Act as the ASLM focal point for GHSA contractors, national stakeholders, facilitators, trainees, and meeting attendees
- Develop and revise reports and/or collect final reports from contractors
- Assist with monitoring program financial expenditures and providing funds to local stakeholders, including collecting proper financial documentation for justifications
- Assist in selecting and contracting technical consultants(s) for in-country support
- Assisting countries with defining terms of reference and scopes of work for technical work
- Follow-up the procuring and shipping of supplies/equipment for countries, as determined by the technical experts
- Organize and plan project meetings, events and activities
- Work with the rest of the team to closeout projects as needed
- Performs other project tasks as assigned by Project Manager/Portfolio Lead
Qualifications:
- .A bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Laboratory Sciences, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in project management within the health sector, preferably in laboratory systems strengthening. Formal training in Project Management will be an added advantage
- Proficiency in project planning and implementation, strong communication abilities, and familiarity with donor-funded projects.
- Written and verbal fluency in English
- Working knowledge highly desirable
