April 21 2026 LabCoP Extended ECHO Session: Introducing the Laboratory System Maturity Monitoring (LMM) tool and sharing practical information for countries planning an LMM evaluation.

The Laboratory System Maturity Monitoring (LMM) is a tool jointly owned by Africa CDC and WHO AFRO. It provides a standardized measurement of laboratory system maturity through a voluntary, collaborative process to assess the progress of national laboratory systems in delivering clinical, public, and global health laboratory functions to achieve Universal Health Coverage targets and requirements. LMM outcomes are important for informing national laboratory strategies, guiding investments, or benchmarking laboratory system progress over time. This session, presented by Dr Noah Fongwen, Senior Coordinator for Diagnostics Access at Africa CDC; Dr Sheick Oumar Coulibaly, Medical Officer for Diagnostics and Lab Services at the WHO Regional Office for Africa; and Dr Ali Elbireer, Senior Consultant with Diag-Net Global Consultancy, introduces the LMM tool and its framework, walks through practical steps for countries planning an LMM evaluation, and discusses how to use LMM results to drive strategy and investment
