OBJECTIVE OF THE ASSIGNMENT | SCOPE OF WORK | EXPECTED DELIVERABLES
Background
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major and growing health and economic threat in Africa, contributing to an estimated 4.1 million deaths each year and potentially reducing GDP by up to 5% by 2050. However, economic evaluation remains underused in guiding AMR interventions because of limited technical capacity, weak One Health integration, poor adaptation of existing methods to African contexts, and inadequate institutional sustainability.
In response, the African Society for Laboratory Medicine is implementing the project Building Economic Assessment Capacity for One Health AMR Interventions in Africa (BEACOI-Africa). The project seeks to develop a sustainable and contextually relevant curriculum to strengthen regional capacity for the economic evaluation of AMR interventions across One Health sectors in Africa. BEACOI-Africa will support the development of a regional bilingual curriculum and associated training materials, the delivery of a blended learning program for at least 120 professionals. Curriculum development will be jointly led by two experts covering the human and animal health economics dimensions.
To support this objective, ASLM seeks to contract two consultants. The consultants will jointly oversee curriculum architecture, technical quality assurance, subject matter expert coordination, faculty capacity-building, and assessment of learning outcomes across the English and French tracks.
Purpose of the consultancy
The purpose of this assignment is to provide technical and strategic leadership for the design, validation, and early implementation of a high-quality One Health curriculum on the costing and economic evaluation of AMR interventions in Africa. The two consultants will work complementary to each other, bringing strong expertise while ensuring a coherent and integrated One Health learning program.
