SLIPTA Auditor Training Workshop

Dates: 10 – 14 November 2025

Location: Gaborone, Botswana

Introduction

The Stepwise Laboratory Quality Improvement Process Towards Accreditation (SLIPTA), is a program developed by the World Health Organization Regional Office for Africa (WHO-AFRO) and implemented by the African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM), since 2013. It aims to improve the quality of public health laboratories in African countries by guiding them towards incremental implementation and achieving the requirements of the ISO 15189 standard. The program uses a stepwise approach, evaluating laboratories based on a standard WHO-AFRO SLIPTA checklist and awarding star ratings (0-5 stars) based on their performance. This SLIPTA Auditor Training workshop is based on the ISO15189:2022 and SLIPTA checklist V3 published in 2023.

Class size will be limited to 24 participants. Countries or organizations may submit as many candidates as they want, and their applications must be rank ordered so we know whom to admit first. A confirmation of financial support letter must accompany the application form. Pay special attention to the selection criteria below. Acceptance will be based on participant qualifications and program needs.

Training Outline

This is a 5-day program consisting of 3-days for didactic and 2-days for mock audit and feedback. The successful trainees should maintain a 100 % attendance and pass the final qualifying examination.

*Participants will not get their certificates if they miss any portion of the training.

After the training, countries will support the trained candidates to participate in either 3 in-country SLIPTA audits or 3 regional SLIPTA audits. These will constitute their 3 mentored practicums. The letter of support should highlight support for participating in SLIPTA audits.
