COVID-19 ECHO Session #9: Diagnostics in the COVID-19 Pandemic Response

May 14, 2020

On 8 May 2020, ASLM’s LabCoP hosted part 2 of an ECHO session about COVID-19 serology tests. Serological diagnostic testing has been proposed to be useful in combination with molecular testing, in confirming COVID-19 infection or exposure to the virus. Serology tests also have the potential to be delivered in rapid format and at the point of care, and could help guide appropriate patients’ management and public health measures as part of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In part 1 of this session, held in April, we discussed the potential role of serology tests in the pandemic response. In this part 2, Professor Rosanna Peeling, Chair, Diagnostics Research Director, International Diagnostics Centre at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine was joined by Dr Jilian Sacks, Senior Scientific Officer, Pandemic Preparedness, Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics (FIND), to continue the discussion on what is known and what are the remaining knowledge gaps regarding the actual performance and clinical utility of these tests for the COVID-19 pandemic response.
