On 29 January 2021, ASLM’s LabCoP hosted the 10th session in a series about manufacturers of COVID-19 molecular diagnostic tools, featuring BD (US) and DiaSorin (Italy). Laboratory diagnosis remains the cornerstone for the control of COVID 19. New diagnostic methods with higher sensitivity and specificity, as well as faster results, are necessary and are continuously being developed. This session featured BD’s Veritor Plus System for rapid COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) testing and DiaSorin’s LIAISON® SARS-CoV-2 antigen assay. The session covered the overview of available SARS-CoV-2 laboratory test kit(s), performance, run time and other technical considerations, requirements/consumables not supplied with the test(s), the status of regulatory approvals, and info about training resources.
