March 2024 LabCoP ECHO Session: Transforming Pediatric HIV Care; Ensuring Equitable Access with the Introduction of Xpert HIV-1 Qual XC

GeneXpert

The March LabCoP ECHO Session focused on transforming pediatric HIV care through ensuring equitable access with the introduction of Xpert HIV-1 Qual XC. Early initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART) in HIV infected infants improves overall care outcomes, yet coverage of critical interventions including access to timely diagnostic services in this population remains low. There is a renewed focus to strategically target more decentralised diagnostics and clinical management for children exposed and living with HIV, as well as integration with maternal, child and adolescent services at facilities and within communities. In this session, presentations are made by Dr Gwynn Stevens, Director Medical Affairs, Cepheid Diagnostics and Life Sciences, South Africa; and Mr Jibrin Kama, Associate Director, Access Program, Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), Nigeria. They share a product overview of Xpert HIV-1 Qual XC and test integration experience from a pilot study conducted in Nigeria.
