March2026 labCoP

The WHO defines advanced HIV disease (AHD) as a CD4 count <200 cells/mm³ or WHO stage 3/4. CD4 testing is crucial for identifying AHD, despite not being needed for treatment initiation. AHD contributes significantly to HIV-related morbidity and mortality in Africa due to late presentation and treatment gaps. Prioritizing CD4 testing can help identify at-risk patients and reduce preventable deaths.

In this session, Prof. Akanmu Alani Sulaimon from the College of Medicine,University of Lagos,Nigeria and Eman Aleksic, the Global Product Manager, at AccuBio, explore why CD4 testing must return to the center of HIV clinical management with a focus on VISITECT, a “same day point of care testing, easy to use kit”
