On 13 June, ASLM’s LabCoP hosted an Extended ECHO session about Malawi and Zimbabwe experiences with lab mapping and final data use. ASLM, Africa CDC and partners have been supporting countries in a phased manner to map existing laboratory capacity on the continent. This initiative aims at collecting laboratory data linked to geolocation information for rapid visualization of capacity within and across countries, and enables simulation of an optimized laboratory network for evidence-based decision making. In this session, presented by Thresa Sumani, Assistant Deputy Director. Health Technical Support Services, Ministry of Health, Malawi; and Vincent Kampira, National TB Laboratories Coordinator Directorate of Laboratory Services, Ministry of Health and Child Care, Zimbabwe, delve into Malawi and Zimbabwe’s experience with ASLM’s LabMaP, covering rationale, process and how results are being used to improve the performance of their respective national laboratory networks.
