June 2023 LabCoP Extended ECHO Session: The World Health Assemble Diagnostic Resolution, What’s next

On Thursday, 8 June 2023, African Society for Laboratory Medicine convened a session to walk through the historic WHA resolution on Strengthening diagnostics capacity. This resolution, the first of its kind, that addresses diagnostics was initiated by the Kingdom of Eswatini, and co-sponsored by all WHO AFRO region member states, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Germany, France and Canada, among others. The resolution urges member states to take 15 steps to strengthen diagnostics, and calls on the Director General of the World Health Organization to take an additional 16 steps. In this session, Dr Kenneth Fleming, Pathologist and Emeritus Fellow, Green Templeton College and Oxford University, UK and Dr Suusan Horton, Global Health Economist and Professor Emeritus, University of Waterloo, Canada, two of the three lead authors of the Lancet Commission on Diagnostics, discussed the resolution and with a focus on what comes next Please follow the links here to view the recorded ECHO session and download the presentation slides.
