LabCoP’s Waste Management session, held on 6 July 2023, in collaboration with Africa CDC and the UK Health Security Agency, focused on detection and surveillance of chemical hazards. This is the second of two sessions dedicated to chemical waste management. Lydia Izon, the Principal Public Health Scientist with Chemicals and Poisons Team, Radiation, Chemicals and Environmental Hazards Directorate of the UK Health Security Agency shares information on detection (including analysis) of chemicals and common surveillance methods for identification of chemical issues of potential public health concerns. Additionally, she introduces the role of poisons information canters, their establishment and how they are important in detecting and responding to chemical events.
