July 2023 LabCoP Monthly ECHO Session: Point-of-Care HIV Viral Load at Delivery to Facilitate EID and Maternal Adherence in Uganda: a Randomized Trial

The July 2023 LabCoP ECHO session, jointly organized by ASLM and Cepheid, focused on point-of-care (POC) HIV viral load (VL) at delivery to facilitate early infant diagnosis (EID) and maternal adherence in Uganda. In this session, we discuss results of a randomized trial focussing on the use of POC testing for EID and VL to increase infant testing coverage, and motivation for maternal antiretroviral adherence, compared to the current standard of care. Dr Andrew Mujugira, Senior Research Scientist at the Infectious Diseases Institute, Makerere University, Uganda presented about challenges experienced in implementing POC testing, possible solutions to address them and how POC testing currently fits into laboratory networks.
