January 2023 LabCoP ECHO Session: The Revised ISO 15189:2022 Standard Part 1 – Striving Towards Meeting User’s and Patient’s Needs

This LabCoP ECHO session is the first in a four-part series dedicated to the revised ISO 15189:2022 version. In this session, we reintroduce key concepts of laboratory quality management systems (QMS) and cover some of the changes in the revised ISO 15189:2022, compared to the withdrawn ISO 15189:2012 version. In this session hosted by Beatrice van der Puije, Project Lead & EQA Programme Manager at ASLM, presentations were made by Dr Samba Diallo, Project Lead, ASLM; Mr Teferi Mekonen, QMS/SLIPTA Programme Manager, ASLM; and Ms Melissa K. Meeks, Director of Education and Development, Global Health Partnerships (GHP), Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI). Key changes highlighted in the new version include the non-auditable and auditable requirements, the incorporation and subsequent withdrawal of ISO 22870 Point-of-care testing in this version, and a deliberate alignment of the new version of ISO 17025:2017.
