AMR CoP ECHO Session May 2022: Strengthening Quality in Animal Health to Support AMR Surveillance

June 17, 2022

In this In this Antimicrobial (AMR) Community of Practice (CoP) webinar, we share the experience of Kenya in the development of a national quality manual and strategic plan for the animal health sector, supporting the establishment on a national quality infrastructure that supports and mandates quality management systems (QMS) implementation and external quality assurance (EQA) participation in the Animal Health Sector. With the origins of most resistant pathogens being zoonotic, the role of the animal health sector in effective AMR surveillance strategies, cannot be overemphasised. Accurate and reliable data from Identification & Antibiotic Susceptibility Testing (ID/AST) is the cornerstone of AMR surveillance, therefore ensuring the quality of data generated by animal health labs through the implementation of QMS is a priority. Presentations were made by Dr Romona Ndanyi, Head, Central Veterinary Laboratories, Kabete, Kenya; and Dr Bridgit Muasa, Quality Manager, Central Veterinary Laboratories, Kabete, Kenya.
