Our Expertise
Quality
As healthcare systems increasingly recognize the importance of laboratory diagnostics in patient management and public health initiatives, the ASLM’s efforts become crucial in ensuring that laboratories operate at optimal levels of efficiency and reliability. We work to institutionalize cost effective Quality Management Systems initiatives and standards within Governments for sustainability. ASLM collaborates with various stakeholders—including governmental bodies, non-governmental organizations, and international health agencies—to create a cohesive framework for laboratory accreditation across Africa. This collaborative approach ensures that laboratories can share best practices while navigating unique regional challenges.
AFRI‑EQA – African External Quality Assessment Programme
AFRI‑EQA is ASLM’s continental External Quality Assessment programme designed to support laboratories in monitoring and improving the accuracy and reliability of test results. The programme provides laboratories with regular proficiency testing, performance feedback, and technical guidance to strengthen diagnostic quality and confidence in reported results. AFRI‑EQA plays a critical role in reinforcing laboratory quality systems, supporting regulatory requirements, and promoting continuous improvement across a wide range of testing disciplines.
SLIPTA – Stepwise Laboratory Improvement Process Towards Accreditation
The Stepwise Laboratory Improvement Process Towards Accreditation (SLIPTA) is a framework developed to support laboratories in strengthening quality management systems and progressively improving performance in line with international standards. SLIPTA provides a structured, stepwise approach that enables laboratories to assess their current quality status, identify gaps, and implement targeted improvements toward accreditation. Through standardized audits, mentorship, and continuous quality improvement, SLIPTA has become a cornerstone for advancing laboratory quality and patient safety across Africa.
