July 2024 LabCoP Extended ECHO Session – Improving Diagnostics for Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis: Results of a Verification Study Conducted in Uganda and Implementation Experience from Mozambique

July 24, 2024

On 4 July, ASLM’s LabCoP hosted an Extended ECHO session about improving diagnostics for drug-resistant tuberculosis. Drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) remains a significant public health concern, given the increasing resistance to the effective foundation drugs, including Rifampicin and Isoniazid. In this session, we focus on utilizing Cepheid’s GeneXpert MTB/XDR, a WHO-endorsed, low complexity NAAT testing platform, and verification study results and early implementation learnings from Uganda and Mozambique respectively. Presentations are made by Dipti Lallubhai, Senior Manager for Medical Affairs at Cepheid; Dr Willy Ssengooba, an infectious diseases expert with Makerere University College of Health Sciences, Uganda; and Dr Claudia Cardoso Mutaquiha, the National Focal Point for Multi-resistant Tuberculosis, with the National Program for Tuberculosis Control, Ministry of Health, Mozambique.
