May 2024 LabCoP Extended ECHO Session: Implementation Experiences from Early Adopters of WHO Standard on Universal Access to Rapid TB Diagnostics

May 22, 2024

On 9 May 2024, ASLM’s LabCoP convened an Extended ECHO session on implementation experiences from early adopters of the World Health Organization Standard on Universal Access to Rapid Tuberculosis Diagnostics, released by WHO in 2023. The standard comprises 12 benchmarks in four steps of the diagnostic cascade, including: identifying presumptive TB cases, accessing testing, being tested, and receiving a diagnosis. Countries, through their TB programs, are required to monitor and improve benchmark performance to ultimately contribute to early case identification, treatment initiation and better care outcomes. Presentations were made by Mr David Asiimwe, Digital Adherence Officer, National TB and Leprosy Program, Uganda Ministry of Health and Dr Omoniyi Amos, National Professional Officer, WHO Nigeria. They explored early implementation experiences, challenges and lessons from Uganda and Nigeria, two of the three countries in Africa that participated in the initial pilot and roll out of the WHO Standard.
