Background
The African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM) is launching the Quality Pathway to Accreditation for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (QuaLiPath), a framework aligned with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements to guide testing and calibration laboratories toward internationally recognized accreditation. To ensure technical rigor, credibility, impartiality, and continental relevance, ASLM is establishing the QuaLiPath Continental Technical Advisory Committee (CTAC) as an independent expert advisory body.
Purpose of the CTAC
- Serves as the technical and strategic advisory unit for the QuaLiPath program
- Participate in stakeholder engagement to strengthen QuaLiPath activities
- Conduct performance and technical review of QuaLiPath documents
- Provide ethical, impartiality and risk oversight
- Oversee training, capacity building and certification of QuaLiPath Auditors
Composition of the QuaLiPath CTAC
- Chairperson (ISO/IEC 17025 expert)
- Vice Chairperson (Project Management expert)
- Technical Experts (Testing & Calibration experts) (3)
- Quality Management Systems Experts (3)
- Measurement Uncertainty Specialists (2)
- Method Validation Specialists (2)
- Accreditation/Assessment Experts (2)
- Secretariat (ASLM)
Qualifications & Experience
a. Training and Certification Qualifications
Members are expected to have:
- Formal training in:
- Quality management systems
- Accreditation standards (e.g., ISO/IEC standards relevant to their field)
- Technical auditing or assessment
b. Work Experience (at least 5-10 years)in implementing/auditing/assessing ISO/IEC 17025 quality systems
c. ISO/IEC 17025 Assessment & Auditing Experience
- Experience in conducting ISO based accreditation assessments
- Participation in accreditation assessments or peer evaluations.
- Ability to interpret standards consistently and objectively.
d. Representation from different African regions and sectors
This call is targeted at experts living in all the regions of Africa from the following:
- Government ministries and institutions
- Academia
- Industry
- Regulatory authorities
- Conformity assessment bodies
- Non-governmental organizations
5. Term of Appointment
- Members serve a term of 5 years (non-renewable)
- Performance and participation may be reviewed annually. Where a member fails to attend 50% of scheduled meetings, their CTAC role will be terminated
6. Remuneration
- This is a volunteer position and members are not paid for the time and expertise
- Costs related to participation e.g. where travel is needed, will be covered by ASLM
