According the World Health Organization, Africa represents 90% of malaria cases and 91% of malaria deaths. Despite global and local elimination strategies in place, annual malaria cases and deaths have not fallen significantly, and efforts to eliminate malaria have been complicated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Acceleration of malaria elimination could be enhanced with active/reactive case detection, screening of pregnant women and surveillance in low-transmission zones. Activities in this course will help students better-understand malaria and prevention.
